Margaret Eberhardt, President of the Board of the Milton Foundation for Education (MFE) has announced that this year’s Milton High School graduate honorees are Ken Quigley, President of Curry College (MHS ‘75) and John (MHS ’55) and Maritta Cronin, lifelong Milton residents and community leaders. Maritta Cronin attended Milton Public Schools as a child and is a retired Milton school teacher. In honor of her unwavering commitment to the Town of Milton and the Milton Public Schools, Maritta Cronin will be made an honorary graduate of Milton High School by Superintendent of Schools, Mary Gormley at a ceremony to be held at a later date. The 14th annual Milton Monster Dash takes place Sunday, October 28, 2012. This year’s race T-shirt will feature a new design chosen from drawings submitted by children. Children who live in or attend school in Milton are eligible to participate in the contest. Entries should feature a Halloween theme, since the race encourages runners and attendees to arrive in costume. The contest runs through Wednesday, October 10. The Milton Monster Dash is organized by the Milton Foundation for Education, with proceeds devoted to the support of science programs for students in grades K through 5. The Milton Foundation for Education's Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards was held May 16.
Students, parents, school officials and members of the Milton Foundation for Education gathered at Milton High School on Wednesday, May 16, to honor seven educators at the 12th Annual Milton Foundation for Education Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards. One teacher from each school was honored and an additional teacher earned the Mary Grassa O’Neill Award, which recognizes excellent teaching and leadership. The 2012 winners are: MFE Trustee Nora Vernazza led the ceremony on Wednesday night, which followed a reception. Vernazza read a portion of the winners’ nomination letters before they addressed the audience. Seven exceptional teachers in Milton’s public schools were surprised on Friday, April 27 when trustees of the Milton Foundation for Education visited them in their classrooms and informed them that they had been selected to receive a 2012 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award. Superintendent Mary Gormley, school administrators and scores of excited students crowded the classrooms to clap, cheer and enjoy the surprise party that the MFE provided for each of the winning teachers. Barbara Avitabile-Mullen, chair of the Foundation’s Outstanding Teacher Award committee, presented flowers and balloons to all the honorees and read excerpts from the Teacher of the Year nomination letters submitted by parents and students. The Milton Foundation for Education's 12th Annual Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards nominations are due March 30.
The deadline for nominations for the Milton Foundation for Education’s 12th Annual Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards is March 30. Each year the MFE recognizes one outstanding teacher from each school and one district-wide winner. Eligible teachers must have three consecutive years of teaching experience in the Milton Public Schools and teach on a regular basis. Nominators can be parents, current or former students, MPS staff or other Milton town employees or residents. Each nominator can only recommend one teacher. Additional details on how to nominate an Outstanding Teacher are available at the Milton Public Schools’ website. All submissions must be sent by Friday, March 30.

The Milton Foundation for Education (MFE) recently announced “The Big Beach Ball” as the theme of the 13th annual Celebration for Education fundraising event to be held on March 10, at the Boston Marriott Quincy in Quincy, MA. Building off of last year’s very well-received Backyard Barbecue theme, the Big Beach Ball will again preview summer, this time with a variety of surf and sand-inspired activities. The Big Beach Ball will include the ever-popular silent and live auctions, and will raffle off a trip for two to the El Conquistador Resort in Puerto Rico. Last Wednesday, November 9, the Milton Foundation for Education held a special event in honor of major donors supporting the MFE's mission to enhance education and expand opportunities for all of Milton's public school students. MFE board member Astrid Hajjar organized the event, and board member Patti Elliott and her husband Daryl graciously opened their home and provided delicious appetizers and desserts for the attendees, who included donors, current and past MFE board members, past and future MHS alumni honorees, Milton Superintendent of Schools Mary Gormley and Leroy Walker, member of the Milton School Committee. The 13th annual Milton Monster Dash takes place on Sunday, October 30, at 1 p.m. at Cunningham Park. The annual fun run and walk, which raises funds to benefit science education in the Milton Public Schools, offers a 5K course, Halloween costume parade and activities for children and families.
