Members of the Milton High School rugby team discuss the school's young program and the international connection between players.
After rugby games at Milton High School, it's common to see players in both color uniforms eating sandwiches together. This act of camaraderie is part of the bond rugby players all around the world have with one another. "We're enemies on the field and friends off the field," said MHS rugby player Neiko Fortes. While the team is friends with their opponents, the Milton players are also very close. A group of about 16 players meet up occasionally for team dinners; wings at Suffolk Grille are a popular meal. Several Milton players, including Fortes, senior captain Kennedy and junior captain Tim O'Connor, also play for the Boston Rugby Club. During April vacation, O'Connor and Kennedy joined the club on a trip to Bermuda where they won an …

With seven matches left in her senior season on the Milton High School girls tennis team, Ursula Beattie is hoping to make a postseason appearance.
The Milton High School girls tennis team is having a good season and with a 5-4 record needs just three wins in its final seven matches to make the MIAA tournament. Senior Ursula Beattie has high hopes to end her four year career on the tennis team with an appearance in the postseason, something the team hasn't achieved since her freshman year. "Just making it would be a fantastic way to end senior year," Beattie said. Beattie, who plans to study biology and play club tennis at Colgate University next year, picked up the game at age five or six. Her mother, a high school and college player, encouraged her to try the tennis, and Beattie said she fell in love. Beattie's love of tennis will likely continue past her years at Colgate. "I want …

The Milton High baseball team has a new coach who calls the gig a dream job.
For the first time in 24 years, Coach Ted Curley won't be in the dugout for the Milton High baseball team when its season starts this month. But his replacement is one of Curley's former players and coach in the MHS system. "It's a dream job," said Jim Moonan, a senior captain for Curley's 2001 Wildcats. Moonan, a sixth grade math teacher at Pierce Middle School, has been involved with Milton High baseball for the past seven years. Moonan has been an assistant for the Milton Legion team in the summer. He's also served as the JV head coach for the past three years. "Almost everyone, with the exception of a few, played on my JV team," Moonan said. The Wildcats are coming off a 9-11 season where they just missed the postseason. The team has a…

The lacrosse and rugby teams at Milton High School helped shovel snow off Brooks Field on Thursday.
While the calendar says it's spring and the sports schedule has flipped over to outdoor sports, Mother Nature is not quite on board. On Thursday, March 21, athletes on the Milton High School lacrosse and rugby teams were asked to bring shovels so they could clear the field turf of Brooks Field and begin practice. The above photo was taken by a freshman lacrosse player and shows the student-athletes hard at work clearing the snow-covered field.

An item that was initially believed to be a bullet casing, forced officials to keep Milton High School students in the same classrooms for over three hours Tuesday.
Milton High School went into a “stay in place” protocol from around 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 5. Students stayed in their classrooms and teaching continued after a student found what was believed to be a .22 caliber shell casing. Deputy Chief Charles Paris said the casing, which was turned over to the school administration Tuesday morning by a student, may have been from a ramset gun, which is a powder actuated tool, similar to a nail gun, used to fasten items to concrete or steel When the construction company doing work in the area of the school where the casing was found, reported they have not been using that tool, a “stay in place” was called.
