Andrew Mowe is one of five Milton High students to be selected to the chorus in the past 35 years.
Milton High School tenor Andrew Mowe was chosen to perform in the All Eastern Division Honors Chorus. Mowe will join students from Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and American schools in Europe. The American Choral Directors Association sponsored chorus will perform in Hartford, Conn. in April. “Milton High School has had only five students accepted to the Eastern Division Festival in the past 35 years,” said MHS Music Director Noreen Diamond Burdett. “Bravo to Andrew!”

Milton High School and Pierce Middle School students will perform at several holiday concerts this month.
Fresh off the news that 23 Milton High musicians and singers were selected to perform in the Senior Eastern District Music Festival the Town of Milton has several opportunities to see some of the best music students in the Milton Public Schools. The holiday concerts will include different ensembles and grade levels in shows all over the Town of Milton between December 6 and December 19. Twenty-three Milton High School musicians and singers have been selected to perform at the Senior Eastern District Music Festival at Boston Latin School on January 5, according to Dr. Noreen Burdett, director of music education for the Milton Pubic Schools. The students were selected based on judges’ scores during the highly competitive district auditions held November 17. The auditions drew 965 students from across the region to Milton High School, which hosted the try-outs for the sixth consecutive year under the direction of the Music Department of the Milton schools. Massachusetts had an adjusted graduation rate of 83 percent for the 2010-2011 school year, while Milton High School's adjusted graduation rate that year was 96.7 percent.
Massachusetts didn't make the top 10 high school graduation rates in the nation, according to preliminary data released by the U.S. Department of Education on Monday, but Milton High School has a higher graduation rate than the state average. The graduation rates released Monday are for the 2010-2011 school year—the first year for which all states used a common, adjusted four-year cohort graduation rate, according to a U.S. Department of Education press release. The Wildcats head coach was honored after his team appeared in its third consecutive MIAA state sectional tournament.
After a 10-win Bay State League season and a first round MIAA postseason win, Milton High School boys soccer coach Mike Madden was named one of the Eastern Massachusetts Coaches of the Year. Madden earned the honor for the Division 2 South category after leading the Wildcats to a third straight MIAA state sectional tournament. Milton High, 20th seed, upset 13th-ranked Norwell High School in the first round of this year’s tournament before falling to fourth-seeded Hingham in the second round. The Wildcats went 5-1 this season against other Division 2 opponents. Hingham was the only D2 team to defeat Milton. Bedford coach Dave Boschetto won the Division 2 North Coach of the Year honor.

District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey has presented Milton High senior R. Dan Halloran one of just 23 Peer Leadership Recognition awards given county-wide for 2012. “The strength and health of school communities derives largely from the students who lead by example,” District Attorney Morrissey said after presenting the award at his 2012 Peer Leadership Conference, held in Norwood recently. “Good teachers and thoughtful administrators are important, but it is students like Dan often doing the work.” Halloran was nominated by faculty member Yolanda Beech, who called him “a natural born leader.” Halloran is president of the Spanish Club and Dramatics Society and participates in the Student Leaders program at the school. Academic teams from 95 public high schools across Massachusetts, including a group from Milton High School, will gather at WGBH in Brighton on November 4 for a chance to compete on season four of High School Quiz Show. Hosted by Billy Costa, the Emmy Award-winning, fast-paced game show showcases teens from across the Commonwealth and celebrates academic achievement. On “Super Sunday,” each academic team of four students will take an identical oral quiz of 100 questions. The Friends of Milton Crew will be hosting the Second Annual South Shore Invitational Novice Challenge on the Neponset River. This is a high school rowing competition among novice crews from around the area. Hingham, Quincy, Thayer Academy and Milton High will compete for the second year on Saturday, October 13. “Rowing is growing on the south shore and we are enthusiastic to be collaborating with other area crews in coordinating this event,” said John Rhee, President of the Friends of Milton Crew. “It is going to be a great day.” The competition, which is restricted to novice rowers, will start at the point at Victory Park in Dorchester and end at the I-93 overpass, a distance of ~2 miles.
