In the past 350 years, the Town of Milton has changed quite a bit. Today, we look at the former Old Colony Railway Station on Reedsdale Road.
The section of Reedsdale Road between Randolph Avenue and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton is currently known as a completely residential area. When the Old Colony Railroad ran through Milton, the scene was quite different. Back when the railway was functioning, the area between 295 and 287 Reedsdale Road was the site of a transfer station. Through a photo from the Milton Historical Society, we can see that the transfer station and car barn of the past. Now, several homes occupy the land.

In the past 350 years, the Town of Milton has changed quite a bit. Today, we look at the Blue Hill Market.
The lone business in the 900 block of Canton Avenue, near Unquity Road, is the gas station on the corner. Long before that service station, a market anchored that block. The Blue Hill Market, which is featured in the first photo from the late 19th century, sat where 959 Canton Avenue is today. The second photo shows the home at that address in 2012, over 100 years after the photo of the Blue Hill Market was taken.

In the past 350 years, the Town of Milton has changed quite a bit. Today, we look at East Milton Square.
East Milton Square is Milton’s largest business district and one of its most recognizable locations. The next photo shows the square in 1954. The third historical photo is from 1957, while the fourth photo shows the square today. The connection of Adams Street is currently closed due to a test run of a potential new traffic pattern through the square. What are your memories in East Milton Square?

In the past 350 years, the Town of Milton has changed quite a bit. Today, we look at the former police station on Central Avenue.
The Residences at Brook Hill, 36 Central Avenue, has been in the news for a while, from its development to its opening last year. Over 100 years ago, the location was the headquarters for the Milton Police Department. The police station on Central Avenue was built in 1890. Eventually, the Milton Police headquarters was relocated to the current station at 40 Highland Street. Through historical photos from the Milton Historical Society we can see the property exactly 100 years ago and what it looks like today. The first photo shows the Central Avenue police station in 1912. In front of the building are Chief Maurice Pierce and Officer Fallon inside the Police Stanley Steamer. The second photo is 36 Central Avenue in 2012.

In the past 350 years, the Town of Milton has changed quite a bit. Today, we look at the Hendries building at 131 Eliot Street.
For younger Milton residents, the corner of Eliot Street and Central Avenue is the home to a vacant building, but for longtime Miltonians, the boarded up building was once Hendries Ice Cream. A plan from developer Steve Connelly to demolish the Hendries building and build a multi-use residential and commercial property at 131 Eliot Street is currently before the Milton Planning Board. Through historical photos from the Milton Historical Society we can see what the property looked like when Hendries was open. The first photo shows Hendries in 1955. The second photo is a recent area showing the building as it looks today.

In the past 350 years, the Town of Milton has changed quite a bit. Today, we look at the past and present of the current Milton Post Office.
The Milton Post Office is a pillar of East Milton Square. The building, which was built in 1936, currently stands on the western side of the I-93. Long before the expressway was built in the mid-1950s, the Blue Bell Tavern stood on the post office property. Through photos from the Milton Historical Society, we can chronicle three periods of time in the same location. The first photo, circa 1826, shows the Blue Bell Tavern as it was in 19th century. The second shows the Milton Post Office after it was built in the 1930s. In the third photo, the large trees on either side of the post office are gone. New handicap accessible ramps have been added as well.
