Milton Reads Releases ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ Schedule

The town-wide reading programs will feature a collection of events in September through November.

Milton Reads 2012, a town-wide reading program, will begin on September 15 and carry through November 15. The one book; one town celebration will center on Harper Kee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird. “The goal of Milton Reads is to engage together as a community in a single cultural activity, reading the same book,” said Annie Davis in a release from Milton Reads. The Milton Reads Committee will hold a variety of discussion groups, film screenings and children’s activities. Events will be held at the Milton Public Library, the Forbes House Museum and Cunningham Park. Below is the schedule of events: September  09.15.12 - Milton Reads 2012! Milton Reads Selects 'To Kill a Mockingbird' as Town-wide Book

Milton Reads! One Book; One Town will begin on September 14 with Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Beginning on September 14, members of the community will have an opportunity to unite over a common piece of literature. Milton Reads! One Book; One Town, a joint effort between the Milton Public Library, Friends of the Library and Library Trustees will offer programming and discussions surround a town-wide read of To Kill a Mockingbird, the classic novel by Harper Lee. “The themes of memory, race, childhood, bullying, and standing in another person’s shoes are surely as relevant today as when the book was written,” said Milton Reads 2012 Committee member Elysse Frick, via a press release.
