Milton High School Graduate Appointed Principal at Tucker Elementary School

Dr. Elaine McNeil-Girmai to return to her hometown as principal of Tucker Elementary School.

Dr. Elaine McNeil-Girmai was appointed recently as the new prinicpal of Tucker Elementary School. Schools superintendent Mary Gormley announced the appointment on her blog for the Milton School Department. "I am very excited to return to Milton," wrote McNeil-Girmai in an email to Patch. "I received a wonderful education through the Milton school system that I believe set me up for success in college and beyond. "I have fond memories of my time at Tucker and I hope to create similar memories for the students while ensuring they receive a strong academic start to their education." McNeil-Girmai was the top candidate out of the 51 people who made applications for the principalship. She currently serves as assistant principal/academic …

First Screening of Tucker Elementary Documentary Draws Crowd

The free screening of “Tucker: Facing Forward” premiered to the public at Milton Public Library Wednesday night.

Milton residents gathered in the bottom floor of Milton Public Library Wednesday night for the first screening of the documentary “Tucker: Facing Forward." Many students, faculty, parents  and alumni of Tucker Elementary School were in attendance to see their starring roles in the film and congratulate producer Frank Schroth on his work. “The question is 'Why Tucker?' Tucker is the smallest, most racially and economic diverse elementary school in Milton and it continuously receives annual reports of progress and achievement,” explained Schroth while introducing the film. “What we’ve found in Tucker is a universal sense of community." Tucker Elementary Profiled in New Documentary Film

The first public screening of a 30-minute documentary film that focuses on Tucker Elementary School will take place at the Milton Public Library on Wednesday.

It is the smallest and most diverse school in Milton, yet Tucker Elementary School consistently ranks high in school achievement. Tucker: Facing Forward, a documentary film, explores what makes Tucker School so successful.   The 30-minute film will be shown at the Milton Public Library on Wednesday, June 27, at 7 p.m. The first public showing of the film is free.  “We keep hearing about Tucker School’s many achievements, its academic improvement, its success in mathematics and general teaching. And I wondered what’s going on at Tucker? What makes Tucker work?” explains film producer Frank Schroth of MyTownMatters. Tucker After School Students Create Care Packages for Milton Military Members

Deployed members of the military from Milton will receive supplies and handmade cards from the first grade and kindergarten class in the Tucker after school program.

A handful of deployed members of the military from Milton will receive special care packages from home this holiday season thanks to the kindergarten and first grade students in the Tucker Elementary after school program. The 24 first graders and 12 kindergarteners enrolled in the program gathered supplies and created holiday cards that will be sent to former Milton Public School students currently serving overseas. The idea to send supplies and cards to military members was inspired by 2008 Milton High School graduates Lance Corporal Dave McSweeney and Lance Corporal Russell McDonald. Tucker School Installs SMART Boards in Every Classroom

The Tucker School recently became the first Milton Public Elementary School to install interactive whiteboards in every classroom.

Tucker Elementary School has become the first public elementary school in Milton to install SMART Boards in every classroom. This accomplishment makes Tucker first in the district-wide push to make the interactive whiteboard technology available to all elementary students. According to Tucker principal Marcia Uretsky, the technology is a boon for teachers of today’s technologically-savvy learners. “Children today have grown up in a visual society,” said Uretsky. “SMART Boards tap into their style of learning by helping to make complex concepts and concrete information immediately accessible.” SMART Boards make sophisticated instruction with technology and internet accessible for teachers and students. “Students can view videos of current …
