Milton Patch's Last Minute Valentine's Day Gift Guide

In case you've procrastinated, we'll make shopping for your sweetheart simple.

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. Love it, or hate it, most folks tend to partake in the annual hearts/candy/flowers/love tradition. So, to help make Tuesday a bit easier, especially if you’re a last minute shopper, here are a few tips for picking up those perfect gifts for that special someone. 1. Think spring. Most folks, unless allergic, enjoy a fresh bouquet of their favorite flowers. They are pretty, cheery and make everyone think of warmer weather to come.  2. Lay on the Sparkle. You know your gal best. But, not many ladies would say no to something glittery. Depending on the level of your relationship, pick up a little jewelry to show your like/love/affection. Glittery gifts are available at Milton’s Galatea Fine Jewelry Grono & Christie…

The Milton High Jazz Combo performed Thursday as part of the Amateur Gardeners’ Club's Eighth Annual Valentine’s Day Tea and Garden Therapy Workshop.

The sounds of live jazz and the smell of fresh flowers swirled through the air at the Milton Council on Aging on Thursday, during the Eighth Annual Valentine’s Day Tea and Garden Therapy Workshop. The annual event, led by the Amateur Gardeners’ Club of Milton, brought Milton residents to the Senior Center to create Valentine's Day floral arrangements, and then enjoy lunch and a little music. Amateur Gardeners’ Club Hosts Floral Workshop at Senior Center

The annual Amateur Gardeners’ Club of Milton Valentine's Day event at the Council on Aging was attended by nearly 70 Milton residents.

About 70 Milton seniors filed into the Milton Council on Aging on Thursday, February 9, for the Eighth Annual Valentine’s Day Tea and Garden Therapy Workshop. Volunteers from the Amateur Gardeners’ Club of Milton were on hand to help the seniors make Valentine’s Day-themed floral bouquets to take home. Lunch was also served and the Milton High Jazz Quartet performed after the flower arrangements were completed. Council on Aging Director Mary Ann Sullivan said the event started eight years ago when the Amateur Gardeners’ Club was brainstorming ideas for an event at the Senior Center. The doldrums of winter and the Valentine’s Day season seemed like a perfect time to bring a large group of Milton women together. The workshop has quickly …

Valentine's Day Gift Ideas, Usual and Unique

Check out our suggestion and add your own.

Two years ago, a dear friend sought my advice on what to get his girlfriend for Valentine's Day. His idea? A lamp. Because nothing says I love you quite like a lamp.... Don't get me wrong — I'm all about practical gifts. But when it comes to Valentine's Day, I believe sentiments or surprises should come from the heart, and be about the person you love, not about fulfuling their lighting needs. After a little bit of coaching, my friend settled on a necklace from a local artist. His girlfriend loved the gift, not only because it was pretty, but because it would remind her of him throughout the day, even when they were apart. Remember too, Valentine's Day doesn't have to be about spending a lot of (or any) money. The way to a loved one's …

The Best Love Song Ever Is...

Valentine's Day is approaching, and we're compiling a list of love songs.

It's Valentine's Day, and love is in the air... on the radio, in the coffee shops and maybe on your iPod. You know there's that one song that melts your heart every time you hear it. For me, it's "Over the Rainbow," sung by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. I don't know what it is, but that song makes stop in my tracks whenever those first notes are played. A colleague of mine and I came up with this list of classic love songs: "Wonderful Tonight," Eric Clapton "Love Song," The Cure "At Last," Etta James "Unchained Melody," The Righteous Brothers "All I Want is You," U2 Is your favorite on our short list? If not, share it in the comments section below.
