Curry College's Chief Academic Officer David Potash recently announced the following Milton residents attained membership to the Curry College Dean's List for the Fall 2012 term: "Curry students who achieve the Dean's List demonstrate deep commitment to learning and academic success," said Dean Potash. "We are proud of them and their accomplishments." To qualify for the Dean's List, students must earn a 3.30 G.P.A., have no incompletes, and have no grade lower than a "C" for the semester. Full-time students must carry 12 or more graded credits for the semester; part-time students must be matriculated, carrying 6-11.5 graded credits for the semester, and must have earned a cumulative total of 15 graded credits in consecutive semesters. -…

The Milton Fire Department responded to Curry College on January 7 for a fire in the lower level of a maintenance building.
A small fire started in the Curry College maintenance building Tuesday afternoon. The fire was quickly knocked down, but a cause has not been determined. At 1:20 p.m., a firebox was struck in the Curry College maintenance barn. Milton Engine 4, which is kept at the nearby Blue Hill Avenue Station, and Milton Engine 1 from the Headquarters Station on Canton Avenue, responded to the fire. “Engine 4 was the first to respond and they knocked [the fire] down right away,” said Milton Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Mahoney. The fire, which started on the lower level of the large, white building, spread up a wooden column and caused damage to some nearby equipment and paint. “We had an investigator come in and he couldn’t tell what started it,” said …

In 2009, Emerson College graduate Seth Graham-Greene released Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a novel that found an intense following. His subsequent book, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter was quickly scooped up for studio release. 2010 also saw the release of The Passage, a much-touted vampire-thriller by Justin Cronin, an English professor at Rice University. Now another local academic has joined the hunt. Armand Inezian, an Emerson alumni and lecturer at Curry College in Milton saw his supernatural thriller, VampCon, released this fall by independent, UK-based Greyhart Press. Kenneth K. Quigley Jr. president of Curry College, makes nearly 57 percent more than presidents of similar size colleges, according to a study of executive compensation packages in 2010 released recently in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Among Curry College's cohorts, two women college presidents– Sister Francesca Onley, president of Holy Family University and Sister R. Patricia Fadden, president of Immaculata University, each made $0, while Sister Elizabeth Hill, president of St. Joseph's College in New York made $58,812. Salaries ranged from $0 that the two religious made in 2010, as college presidents to a little more than the $1-million package for Kevin J. Manning, the president of Stevenson University. Boston Magazine Senior Editor Casey Lyons will discuss legalizing medical marijuana on Tuesday as a guest of the Curry College Society of Professional Journalists.
The Curry College Society of Professional Journalists will host a special presentation on marijuana and the media tonight, October 30, at 7 p.m. Casey Lyons, senior editor for Boston Magazine, will be the keynote speaker on the timely topic as Massachusetts faces a ballot initiative to legalize medical marijuana in the November 6 election. Lyons authored a piece entitled Lost in the Weeds, about Question 3 in the October issue of Boston Magazine. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Curry College Student Center, Large Meeting Room.

Students from the Plymouth campus of Curry College assist the Friends of the Plymouth Pound.
Public Relations students always need a project on which to practice. This semester Curry College Plymouth Campus students took on Friends of the Plymouth Pound. "The best way to learn is hands on, or in this case a 'paws' on approach," Kirsten Whitten said. Whitten, a public relations professor is teaching the principles of public relations to a group of continuing education students at Curry. The students were able to choose any nonprofit organization and put together a public relations plan to assist in the areas which needed the most work. Milton resident and Curry Senior Lecturer in the English Department Dorothy Fleming advises job seekers to identify what's important to them in a job, and to make sure that these values are met.
Like her namesake from The Wizard of Oz Dorothy Fleming has discovered that “there’s no place like home." “Home” for Fleming is Milton – it’s where she lives and where she works. After trial and error in a variety of jobs that felt anything but comfortable, Fleming finally found the right fit as Senior Lecturer in the English department at Curry College. “I enjoy teaching the students at Curry. They are fun and open-minded, and my colleagues are terrific. My goal is to create a nurturing setting where students learn to perfect the essay form of writing and the basics of the dreaded research paper.
