ReplyWow, as a single, non-craqcksmoking mother, it is rather offensive to read your post....we are not all drug users, and your point could have been made without singling out a specific group of women.

ReplyI love Bertie, too, especially his comical and wry observations about the world through a 6 year old's eyes. I am glad to know that the series is even further along than I have read. I was beginnning to worry that McCall Smith was "done" with my favortte series. He certainly is a prolific writer, ey?

Thanks for your kind words, Jon! I think kids are born with a value for mother nature...we just need to nurture it, rather than steer them away from the messy, muddy word outdoors! This week in particular is a great example of a thriving outdoor classroom, full of worms, puddles and happy plants for our kids to explore!

ReplyDevilk's advoate: If this three month old is still lucky enough to have mama's milk, I would not be imposing a bottle unless I had really, significantly addressed the issue that once the bottle is tolerated it may completely take preference over the breast. If this is simply a gesture to give mom a break, as it seems, there may be oter, wonderful, tolerable ways in which to do so that do not upset the baby's natural and normal attachment to the current nursing routine. Offer to do laundry, go grocery shopping, or play with the baby while Mom takes a shower....those are much appreciated ways to give a real break!!!

Thanks a million for your kind and witty response, Joan! I am right on board with you, selective and intentionally viewing is the only way to go! We can pull up our content on a laptop and put it away just as quickly. In fact, people are often confused when they walk into my living room, which doesn't center around a tv!!! We have run into times where my kiddo feels frustrated that the rest of her peers watch SPongebob and the like, which she knows is not appropriate for her...but it's mostly exasperation, not jealousy! I just feel that it is so darn difficult to break bad habits, so i have little advice for parents who now are discovering how terrible TV is for their kids....
