On the article Clark to Serve 4-5 Years in State Prison

Reply"Ron Johnston" has apparently never owned a business or had a child. Unless it's a largely cash business, it's pretty hard to "steal" sales tax and get away with it. I'm not sure how you could have intimate knowledge of such theft unless you were both cashier and accountant. How you could compare Clark's actions with somebody skimming sales tax is alarming. Clark preyed on the weakness of parents who lost their CHILDREN, which is unspeakable agony and pain that never goes away. She used their babies' names to raise money from their friends and families and spent the money on herself. She assaulted and poisoned the memory of each and every child and forced the parents to relive all manner of horror over and over again. The parents seem pleased with the sentence, and for that we should be glad.

ReplyWith that sentence she could be eligible for parole after 18 months.
Doesn't seem long enough considering the nature and number of thefts. We'll have to read the judge's opinion to see what factors he considered, since just one guilty finding of embezzlement can bring ten years in state prison. -
On the article WANTED: Diamond Thief

ReplyBigger sized diamonds still fetch decent value. The gold in the ring is probably worth about eighty dollars, unless it was ridiculously heavy. Pawn shops are paying about $35 dwt at best, and most rings weigh from a few up to five or so. A one carat diamond, even of low quality, would be worth at least ten times that much. With any luck they'll track down the vehicle, which will produce the thief. BTW, when did diamond thieves start using mini-vans as getaway cars?!!

On the article Meet Barnstable's New State Rep. Brian Mannal

ReplyDr. Mannal is not a public official, so your lies about him here are inappropriate. What impressed me most about Brian Mannal is how he conducted himself and his campaign. He addressed the Issues, and didnt roll around in the mud launching all manner of personal attacks. Atsalis is a bully and a sure loser. Remarkably voters were prepared to re-elect him anyway until he was found to have messed up his filings again for the umpteenth time. I am confident that Brian Mannal will hold his office for as long as he wants it, and we are lucky to have him.

ReplyPoor Dets, such a sore loser. If you hadn't messed up with your filings a FIFTH time, you'd still have a job.

On the article Will Cardinal O’Malley Become Pope?

ReplyThe possibility of an American Pope, even a slim one, is very exciting. However most Americans are cafeteria Catholics who tend to pick and choose what Papal decrees they'll observe, especially concerning reproductive issues. Cardinal Sean O'Malley speaks Spanish, Portuguese, German and Italian fluently, and is of the Capuchin order, known for its simplicity. He was criticized for being slow to respond to sex abuse scandals, but acted more effectively than most other church officials. I'll be praying to St. Patrick for some Irish luck in the conclave this week!

Tim - Your issue may have had to do with location. These kids are apparently going to work on private property under the umbrella of Cape Cod Beer's liability insurance.
This is a great opportunity for these kids, and I hope more parents get involved to do similar things for our teens in Barnstable.
I will make a note to swing by on Saturday with my son and buy a few dogs!
